MORE INFORMATION ABOUT TELEHEALTH CONSULTATIONS
What is a telehealth consultation?
Telehealth consultation are consultations with your health professional via a telephone, or video call on either a computer or on your mobile phone.
How does physiotherapy work via telehealth?
During a face to face consultation a large about of information is collected from you which enables us to identify the cause of your symptoms. We do this by asking questions, and then conducting an examination involving movement tests, muscle tests and some other tests for specific conditions. An appropriate treatment plan is then developed and discussed with you. "Treatment" often includes providing detailed information, advice and education about your problem, how to modify your normal activities, how long it may take to improve as well as working together to create a rehabilitation plan. All of this can take place via telehealth with a few modifications. Some tests and treatments that require 'hands-on' may be limited and we will let you know if this affects our ability to make a clear diagnosis or to provide an effective treatment and rehabilitation plan.
What do I need for a telehealth video consultation?
Our consultations take place using a secure platform called Zoom. You will need:
If you do not have the necessary equipment for video consultations, we may be able to arrange a phone consultation instead.
Telehealth Appointments
Our reception staff will send you a secure private zoom link by email a few days before your appointment. Please do a sound test when you receive your zoom link to check it works. Please contact us if you are having trouble. On the day of your appointment, please connect online at least 5 minutes before your consultation. If we are doing a phone consultation only, we will call you at your scheduled appointment time.
Quality of Service
The telehealth consultations will be carried out by the same people who would carry out a face-to-face consultation, so the level of clinical expertise is exactly the same. The use of video enables us to conduct 80-90% of the questioning, testing and education required to provide the same level of service as a face-to-face consultation. However, in some cases our ability to make a diagnosis and treatment plan may be limited if this relies upon having to perform a 'hands-on' test or treatment. In Level 2, we will be able to see you in the clinic if it is safe to do so.
Security and Privacy
Our telehealth platform (zoom) provides a secure medium for telehealth and we aim to provide the same level of privacy and confidentiality as face-to-face consultations. However, it will be your responsibility to ensure that your privacy and confidentiality is preserved in your location as much as is possible, for example by making sure that you cannot be overheard or seen while having the remote consultation.
At Level 2 we can see patients in the clinic, and via telehealth (phone and video) consultations. For 'in-clinic' appointments the following precautions are in place:
- any patients with symptoms will be asked to stay home and contact healthline.
- all patients will be screened by phone, and again on arrival at the clinic for COVID-19 risk exposure & symptoms.
- masks are available for any patients who wish to wear them, and for vulnerable patients
- contact tracing records are kept for all patients, staff and visitors to the clinic. The NZ Covid Tracer QR code is available at reception. All non-patient visitors to the clinic are asked to use this, and/or sign our visitor register.
- physical distancing measures apply in our waiting areas and consulting rooms. Please remain 2m apart from other people in waiting areas, and at least 1m apart from clinic personnel where possible.
- strict hand hygiene and surface cleaning protocols are in place on the front desk and in our clinical areas
If you are unsure about how these work and would like more information, please contact us and one of our staff are happy to give you a call to discuss any questions you may have.
