Referrals for Physiotherapy Specialist Consultations
A written referral is required from a health professional for Specialist Consultations. Initial consultations are 1 hour, and follow-up appointments are 30 mins, unless otherwise arranged.
Physiotherapy Specialist Consultations
At the initial consultation (1 hour), a full assessment of your shoulder will be conducted and a full explanation of the findings will be provided. Treatment options will be discussed and you will be given the opportunity to ask questions and determine your preferred treatment pathway. If further imaging is required to help with diagnosis, or if onward referral to another health professional or medical specialist is required, this will be discussed with you. Generally your referring provider will arrange any necessary investigations or referrals. Your referrer will receive a full report following the consultation, and this will be copied to your GP, and any other health professionals involved in your care to ensure a cohesive approach to your management.
How Does This Work with ACC Claims?
If you have a current, accepted ACC claim, and your referrer has requested that you be seen under the "Physiotherapy Specialist Services" contract, your appointment is fully funded (no surcharge). Patients receive a 1-hour initial consultation. If you currently have a physiotherapist, you will normally return to them for ongoing treatment. For complex conditions, up to four follow-up sessions with the specialist physiotherapist may be available.
A referral from your treatment provider is required for specialist physiotherapy services.
If you do not have ACC cover for your injury, Physiotherapy Specialist appointments are charged at a Specialist rate. Contact us for current Specialist Consultation Fees.
