Physiotherapy Specialist Referrals

​From the 1st August 2019, the new “Physiotherapy Specialist Services” contract with ACC will provide full funding for patients referred to a Physiotherapy Specialist for a second opinion on rehabilitation, or for management of a complex condition. Patients receive a 1-hour initial consultation and up to four follow-up visits.

The objective of the Physiotherapy Specialist Service is to provide ACC clients with timely access to a physiotherapy specialist assessment, rehabilitation, and treatment planning services that facilitates a prompt, cost-effective and sustainable return to independence and/or work or education.

Physiotherapists are welcome to refer patients for a second opinion on diagnosis, treatment or rehabilitation and are encouraged to attend the appointment with the client.

To access this service, please complete a referral form (below) including relevant clinical details.  Send your referral to the email or fax number included on the form. The patient will be contacted to arrange an appointment.

Initial consultations will take one hour. Physiotherapists are welcome and are encouraged to attend the appointment with the patient where possible.  A full report detailing clinical findings, diagnosis and recommended management will be provided to the referrer within 2 days.

If there are no current ACC claims, the full cost of treatment will be charged to the patient.
